- Lord Muruga appears in Kachiappar's dream and gives him the opening word of Kandapuranam: Vigadachakaram
- Kachiappar commences writing and every night, leaves the palm-leaves at the lord's feet.
- Lord Muruga makes corrections in the night.
- During the arangetram, other poets voice their disapproval over the opening word.
- The next day, Lord Muruga taking the form of a poet from Chola Nadu appears, and enlightens the poets.
- Upon hearing this, they come to realize the greatness of Kachiappar.
Kandapuranam begins
- The Devas, having deceived Lord Shiva and insulted him by attending a yagam by Dakshan, suffer for many millenia.
- Dakshayani, to wash away her sins, was as born as Parvathi to Himavan, the King of the Himalayas
- The devas, being tormented by Surapadman, come to Lord Shiva for help.
- Lord Shiva tells them that once his marriage to Goddess Parvathi is complete, they will be saved.
- The devas sent Manmadhan to awaken Lord Shiva from his meditation.
- Lord Shiva becomes furious and burns Manmadhan down to ashes with his third eye.
- The marriage of Lord Shiva and Godess Parvathi takes place.
- When people from all three worlds descended for the marriage, the entire world began to tilt towards the north.
- Lord Shiva requested Sage Agastya to wait on the southern pole of the world in order to balance it.
- After the marriage, Manmadhan is revived by Lord Shiva.
